Announcing The First Tumblr Teachers Summer Book Club Selection!

We had over 70 people vote for the summer book club.   I would love for everyone to participate, and if you did not vote but want to join in you are more than welcome to.

When people voted, they were asked to rate 4 different books on a scale 1-10 to show how interested they were in each book.  The average score is how we have determined which book to use.   If it isn’t a book you’re interested in, don’t worry.  I’m sure the first book club will be a success, so we will likely hold a second one.

Whew.

So the averages were:

The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America 6.47

The Death and Life of the Great American School System 7.21

Research-Based Strategies to Ignite Student Learning 7.61

AND THE WINNER with a 7.81 average is

Teaching with Poverty in Mind: What Being Poor Does to Kids’ Brains

and What Schools Can Do about It by Eric Jensen!!!!!

Book club will start in 2 weeks. You have until June 1st (or you can enter the discussion a little late) to borrow, buy, or order from another library this book.

If you are planning on participating please reblog this post with a comment that says I’m participating and the tumblr name you will be posting your reactions/thoughts to the book on.

Thanks!
