CASTLE: Principal and School Blogs →
A great list of Principals who blog. I wish these were on Tumblr, but I know some of you have reached out before wanting to connect with others at the administrative level.
PS: If you’re a principal, you can add yourself to the list :o)

Edweek: Making Room for Graphic Novels →
A few months ago I posted here and here about the use of Graphic Novels in the classroom. The link above is another good read if you are looking to incorporate them in your classroom this year.
Anonymous asked: Hello Team Teachers! I have a question for which I have not been able to find an answer and hope that maybe some Tumblr teachers can help me out. My question is: If parents can homeschool, why can't teachers homeschool students (as in run mini-private schools from their homes)? Are there laws against this? For infants and toddlers up to pre-K, there are family run day cares in private homes...

#ed reflect
What is one thing that has made your life, as a teacher, easier this year?
(As a student teacher for me)
I learned to be comfortable with myself. I learned that regardless of what the students were expecting based on my background, my appearance, or my stature, I am who I am, and that only makes me a better teacher. I stopped molding to the void left when my mentor teacher stepped aside, and I...

End of Year Reflection
The most valuable thing I learned this year is the importance of providing your students with opportunities to be active learners. “Active learning” is a catchphrase that you hear all over the place in education and in teacher prep programs. I define active learning as lessons in which my students are doing more cognitive work than I am. These lessons, while not always 100% successful, were...

Tips for Engaging Parents this School Year →
Here’s a sample:
Begin the Conversation
Instead of having parents sign a syllabus with difficult language try sending a personalized email.
I use a blanket email I copy and paste but the first two sentences always say something along the lines of, “Dear Mr./Mrs. Doe, I really enjoyed meeting Johnny who is very bright and made me laugh with jokes.” I always try to send a positive...

Train Wreck - No Pictures, Please: First day(s)! →
jbizzle329:
I’m sitting at my desk at work with Ludacris blaring out of my work computer. The school is empty. The principal let me stay late to do a bit of work. I’ve done all I can do so I’m gonna tell you about my first day(s).
Yesterday was great. I met my co-workers, worked in groups and got some work done in my classroom. While working in my classroom (I share with 2 other...

Tomorrow, 8/5/11 will be a Teacher Dare Day.
Here are the rules.
Please reblog so that everyone knows.
I think this will be helpful as teachers get ready for the new school year — with many of the tumblr community landing new jobs this summer!
Go for it!

I've got some teacher goodies to give away, but...
…I just can’t think up a good contest idea. Submit your idea to me here. The best one gets my undying love and affection (I may also be able to send over a smaller iTunes or Amazon gift code).
Or you can let me know if you think I should just donate them locally.
*By “some teacher goodies,” I mean “a substantial amount of school supplies.”
pig-whale asked: Hi,
I'm a second year high school teacher working on my masters in bilingual education/TESL. I am writing a paper about assessment, and I think I want it to be about the challenges of NCLB and the problems caused by high stakes testing, but I don't see the point unless there is a solution. I understand that accountability is needed at all schools in our nation,
but I also...
